  PAE 2008 Report
LPN Coordinator Naomi Cordill's report from the
2008 Performing Arts Exchange in Atlanta, GA

Must admit that this time in Atlanta for PAE was much better than any other year it has hosted the Conference. The hotel and Center staff was most friendly and helpful. The shuttles worked well and often. Juried Showcases were expensive and not that great! But I said something—so now I am on the review committee for changes!!

We were so excited to have several "firsts" at the conference this year, as was it exiting to see that presenters are finally "getting" how LPN can help them book their artists at a reduced fee when we "block." I have never been as busy as I was at this conference either!

Another excitement was the number of artists we heard and about whom we became excited.

A Louisiana Jazz Band from New Orleans (in pictures) opened the conference luncheon, and then another Louisiana band, Equinox Jazz Orchestra, closed the conference with a 4 hour concert at the Atlanta Aquarium. Great for Louisiana!!!!!!!!!

We had 25 presenters present at the first consortia meeting on Thursday, and then we had 25 (total of 28 present at conference)—at Hard Rock Café for an "eating-meeting." We had a great session, and we have adopted Emerald Coast Concert Association, as they match with us better than they do their own consortia—that refused to let them into the Florida Consortia Meeting! Can you believe!

Several dates for the state-wide booking session were discussed, and Wednesday, February 4, 2009, was decided upon. At present, as long as numbers of attendees will fit, the meeting will be held at Manship Theatre 2nd floor conference room at Shaw Center for the Arts. We also have the Welcome Center on reserve.

The meeting will be from 10 A.M. to 3 P.M. We will order lunch when you arrive.

PS

Many of you know Mary Beth Treen, and she was awarded a special service award that will become annual—The Mary Beth Treen Award. I was shocked when SAF contacted me about presenting this award to her, but very honored. She is very deserving.
